In this video clip, the Physician works together with the patient to develop a specific focus. The provider does this by asking open-ended questions, providing affirmation, using reflective listening and summarizing for the patients (OARS). He also helps the patient to scale the importance of the issue and the patient’s confidence level for change behavior.

In this video clip we meet a patient who has just been screened as “at risk” for alcohol use and pregnancy. You will see the Nurse working together with the patient to both link the two behaviors and use the patient’s responses to her assessment to elicit change talk and action planning toward change behavior.
