Funders
The CCGC Tobacco Program is currently funded by a grant from the State Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership (STEPP) Program of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). Past funders include the Caring for Colorado Foundation and The American Legacy Foundation.
STEPP Grant
Funding to support Colorado's tobacco prevention and control programs is made available through the passage of Amendment 35, the tobacco tax ballot initiative passed in November 2004 and HB05-1262, the enabling legislation for Amendment 35 signed into law on June 2, 2005.
With funding from STEPP, CCGC will increase the incidence of healthcare provider advice and intervention with tobacco users through the following activities:
1. CCGC staff will serve as clinical experts in tobacco control to educate the Colorado medical community using a standard set of Colorado-focused tools and resources based on the Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence Clinical Guideline and other evidence.
2. CCGC staff will work with individual clinical practices that serve low income patients or pregnant women to educate providers on the tobacco guideline (5 A's), resources, and assist them in a multi-step long-term process of re-designing their practices to incorporate the 5 A's and tobacco identification and reporting systems.
3. CCGC staff will disseminate up-to-date information regarding the Colorado QuitLine and Medicaid Cessation benefit information to healthcare providers.
